Iran Foreign Minister Araghchi Visits Damascus and Ankara

Iran Foreign Minister Araghchi visited Syria on Sunday pledging his support for Bashar al-Assad in confronting the terrorist offensive in Aleppo, then flew to Ankara where he met Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan today, before talks expected with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Press reports claim that Turkey is supporting some of the forces involved in the terrorist offensive in Syria, but Erdogan has generally restored relations with Damascus, so the Iranian visit is important in forging cooperation.

AFP reports that Turkish forces and Turkey-backed rebel factions control much of northern Syria, and there are some 3.2 million Syrian refugees currently living in Turkey, according to UN data.
