Iran Offers Collaboration with Syria, Supports All Factions Involved in New Government

Iran’s Foreign Ministry today stated that the future of Syria should be determined by its own people without foreign interference. According to RT’s account, it expressed hope that relations between the two countries would continue. Tehran reiterated its support for international efforts based on UN Resolution 2254 to advance the political process in Syria. That calls for free elections and a new constitution.

Iran’s statement further called for a quick end to the fighting, for terrorism to be prevented, and for all parts of Syrian society to be involved in forming a government. The UN document calls for a peaceful resolution to the Syrian conflict through free elections and a new constitution.
