On Dec. 24, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Israel would begin targeting the leaders of Yemen’s Houthi rebel group for assassination, according to the Times of Israel. This is apparently in response to numerous drone and missile attacks by the Houthis against Israel. Up to now, Israel has primarily targeted port and energy infrastructure, so this marks an escalation in Israel’s tactics.
The Houthis have remained defiant against Israeli threats, including those recently made by Netanyahu. They fired another missile at Israel early on Dec. 24; it was the fourth such attack since Dec. 19. The incoming missile set off sirens over a wide swath of central Israel, sending millions of people scrambling to reach bomb shelters, reported the Times of Israel. The sirens were activated as a precaution against falling fragments from the interception.
