Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, speaking during a working visit to the city of Borisov, announced on Dec. 10 that Belarus now possesses nuclear weapons. The agreement on nuclear weapons had been signed earlier with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but now it appears that the nuclear weapons have arrived.
“I brought nuclear warheads here,” Lukashenko said. “Not just a dozen of them.” “Many people write: ‘Oh, it’s a joke, no one brought anything in.’ They did,” he said. “And the fact that they [opponents] say it’s a joke means they missed it. They didn’t even notice how we brought them in,” he said.
Lukashenko had earlier warned that if Belarus is attacked, there would be an immediate response. In his meeting on Dec. 6, he had asked President Putin to supply Belarus with the Oreshnik missile system, which Putin agreed to do. Lukashenko indicated that the launcher for the Oreshnik will be produced in Belarus and Russia will supply the missile, free of charge, in the second half of 2025.
