Mennonite Demonstration and Hymn-Sing in Chicago on Dec. 28, Commemorating the Massacre of the Holy Innocents, Demands Israel Get Out of Gaza

Today in Chicago, the local branch of the national Mennonite Action group held a demonstration at 4 p.m. CST on Michigan Avenue, titled, “The Holy Innocents Vigil for Gaza,” demanding that Israel get out of Gaza. The event was timed with the Christian commemoration of the Massacre of the Holy Innocents (King Herod’s order to kill all male children under two in Bethlehem, to eliminate any “King of the Jews.”)

Mennonite Action Chicago organized today’s event, which was also announced at the Dec. 27 International Peace Coalition weekly meeting. Mennonite Action groups have led protests for over a year. The national Mennonite Action group in January 2024, on Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, staged a protest in the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C., demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.
