President-elect Donald Trump is planning to assign a special envoy to Iran, according to Reuters yesterday, which says that, according to two people familiar with the transition plans, Richard Grenell is being considered. One told Reuters that Grenell is “definitely in the running.” In the role, Grenell is expected to be tasked with speaking with countries in and beyond the region about Iran as well as taking Tehran’s temperature on possible negotiations, said one of the sources.
