The Russian Defense Ministry announced yesterday that Russian forces retaliated for a Dec. 18 Ukrainian attack on Rostov using ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles. “This morning, in response to the actions of the Kiev regime supported by Western countries, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation delivered a group strike by long-range precision weaponry at a command post of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Luch Design Bureau, which develops and manufactures Neptune missile systems and Olkha MLRS ground-based cruise missiles, as well as hit positions of a Patriot SAM system,” the ministry said in a statement. “The goals of the strike have been achieved. All the targets have been engaged.”
Ukrainian officials told Reuters that the Russian missile strike killed at least one person and damaged a historical cathedral, six embassies and other buildings across the Ukrainian capital during the morning rush hour on Dec. 20, Ukrainian officials said. The Ukrainian air force also claimed to have shot down five Iskander missiles that were used in the strike.
