Russian Diplomat Points to Ukrainian Trace in Syria Destabilization

During her briefing this morning, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova charged that a “Ukrainian trace” is clearly evident in the escalation in Syria. She highlighted reports suggesting that the Kiev regime’s security services are collaborating with terrorists, supplying them with drones and sharing expertise in their use, reported TASS. She further stated that this is neither the first nor the last region where the Kiev regime has employed its “criminal experience.” “African countries were targeted before; now, it concerns Syria,” Zakharova added.

“There is no doubt that the terrorists would not have undertaken such a bold move without incitement and comprehensive support from external forces aiming to provoke a new round of armed conflict in Syria. By escalating violence, the radicals clearly seek to undermine years of efforts to establish sustainable peace in the country, posing a significant security threat to civilians,” she concluded.

RIA Novosti reported on Dec. 2 that it was told by a source in the Syrian special services that the terrorist organization Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) was able to capture Aleppo with the support of Ukrainian advisers and with the help of American advanced technology. “The militants of the al-Nusra group have no experience in using high technology, and it would not have been possible to master it without advisers from Ukraine, from the Islamic Party of Turkestan [another jihadi terrorist group—ed.] and Syrian officers [who defected to the terrorists’ side.—ed.],” he said.

In September, a Syrian informed source told RIA Novosti that Ukrainian military instructors arrived in Idlib province to train Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham terrorists in the production and modernization of drones, the report continues. According to the agency’s source, the high technologies with which the terrorists managed offensive operations were provided by the United States.

“Assault groups and drones were equipped with GPS devices with encryption and extensive use of artificial intelligence—thus, the use and navigation of attack UAVs and kamikaze drones took place from a long distance,” the source explained. He also noted that for the first time since 2011, the Syrian army encountered powerful electronic warfare systems during the militants’ offensive.

Western media, if it has reported on the Ukrainian trace in Syria at all, it’s attempting to downplay it as a negligible factor. A report in the Middle East Eye attempted to attribute everything Ukraine is accused of regarding support to Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham instead to Turkish networks in both Turkiye and Syria, though not denying that a Ukrainian military intelligence delegation visited Idlib last September.
