The report published Dec. 16 by the Israeli nonprofit Latet is a scathing indictment of the way that the Israeli society and economy operates, oriented to IDF conquest, not to the development of the region or its people.
Latet found that 2,756,000 out of Israel’s 9.6 million people live below the poverty line, or 28.7%. Further, 1,240,000 children, or 39.6% of Israeli children live in poverty. Such a childhood poverty rate is comparable to that of the most devastated U.S. cities, such as Buffalo or Detroit.
