Numerous press agencies have covered the Dec. 14 announcement by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump that he has appointed Richard Grenell as an envoy for special missions, naming hotspots Venezuela and North Korea in particular.
Grennell served in the previous Trump administration, and was the U.S. ambassador to Germany, the Acting Director of National Intelligence (February-May 2020), and the Presidential Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Negotiations. He had also spent eight years on the UN Security Council under the George W. Bush presidency.
