President-elect Trump’s envoy on Ukraine peace negotiations, General (ret.) Keith Kellogg, said that the assassination of Russian General Kirillov was “not a smart thing to do” by Ukraine. “I don’t think this event is really a step backwards,” he said, referring to possible peace negotiations, “but I will say this: there are rules of engagement, and there are certain things that you just don’t do.”
Kellogg claimed that both sides are ready to talk, although neither have given a clear direction on when, and under what conditions, that might happen. Nevertheless, Kellogg expressed confidence that Trump, once in office, would make progress. “President Trump, who made this promise during the campaign, will actually follow through and get this done. He has the right capabilities and the right abilities to do that,” Kellogg said.
