Rep. Mike Waltz, the nominee of President-elect Donald Trump for National Security Adviser, commented in an interview with Ben Shapiro yesterday, on the future of Ukraine: “We’ve seen everybody’s narrative go from ‘As long as it takes, blank check, don’t dare say anything else, or you’re somehow pro-Russian’ to ‘How do we get this to a deal?’” Further, the President-elect has made it clear the war must end. Waltz said that he is to pull together Ukrainians and Russians at the negotiating table, based on terms in alignment with U.S. interests.
He criticized Biden’s administration for continually pouring in tens of billions at a time within defining a specific outcome to be achieved. In his interview with Ben Shapiro, he asked: “Is it in America’s national interest to expect every Russian off of every inch of Ukraine, including Crimea? How long is that going to take? How much money is that going to cost? How many lives will be lost? Is that even a realistic goal at this point?”
Waltz, however, thinks it worth confronting China, without specifying the outcome. He pledged more arms to Taiwan and offered: “One of the lessons we should learn from Ukraine is you don’t try to arm your allies after they’ve been invaded. You, maybe, arm them before to prevent the invasion in the first place.”
