On December 4, military leaders of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Russia conferred on the U.S.-London directed destabilization of Syria and the broader implications for the region. Iranian Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, held a series of phone discussions with Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, and the Chiefs of General Staff of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, and the Syrian Army, Abdul Karin Mahmoud Ibrahim, concerning joint support for Syria, and the serious resurgence of the Takfiri terrorist groups there. See EIR’s coverage of the Pezeshkian-Putin Dec. 3 meeting.
According to Tasnim News Agency of Iran, Baqeri warned that the latest acts of the Takfiri terrorist groups are but the first episode of a “perilous scenario” for the whole region. He warned, “The coincidence of this invasion (in Syria) and the Zionist regime’s fragile ceasefire with Lebanon reveals a coordinated American-Hebrew plot to weaken Syria, its allies and the resistance axis.” The four commanders also call upon Syria’s neighbors to take action to prevent any backing of the Takfiri terror groups.
