The Russian military reported this morning that it shot down 19 Ukrainian drones over four Russian regions and the Black Sea overnight, but residential buildings in three districts of Kazan, more than 1,000 km from Ukrainian territory, were hit. The press service of Tatarstan regional governor Rustam Minnikhanov, said that eight drones attacked the city, reported AP. Six hit residential buildings, one hit an industrial facility and one was shot down over a river, the statement said. A video posted on local Telegram news channel Astra, verified by The Associated Press, shows a drone flying into the upper floors of a high-rise building. Local authorities said there were no casualties. Flights were halted at Kazan’s airport and all mass gatherings canceled on Dec. 21 and 22.
There was also a Ukrainian attack on the town of Rylsk in the Kursk region using HIMARS rockets yesterday. Acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein charged that the Ukrainians deliberately targeted only civilian areas. “The Nazis deliberately choose civilian facilities and institutions of social infrastructure as targets of their strikes. The buildings of the House of Culture, physical fitness center, teachers’ training college, school, firefighting depot and private households were damaged,” he wrote on Telegram TASS reported. He later reported that the death toll from the strikes was 5 along with 12 people wounded.
