On Dec. 3, the UN General Assembly held a vote calling for the convening of a conference to establish an independent state of Palestine. Introduced by Senegal, the resolution calls for a “High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.” It received an overwhelming vote of 157 countries in favor, with 8 opposed, and 7 abstaining. Voting against were the U.S., Israel, Hungary, Argentina, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, and Papa New Guinea.
