If Volkswagen dismisses 15,000 workers as they have announced, 45,000 will lose their job in the supply industry, including in Italy, said Roberto Vavassori, head of ANFIA, Italy’s national association of automotive suppliers. Vavassori, who was speaking at the ANFIA congress on Dec. 11, is of the view that the 2019 auto production levels will never again be reached in Europe. He asked for urgent unemployment support from the government, as well as subsidies for R&D, lower energy prices and commercial vehicles. Automobile production in Italy will collapse 45% in 2024.
