All 535 Members of the U.S. Congress received a copy in early October of the book, Nuclear War: A Scenario, each autographed by its New York Times bestselling author, Annie Jacobsen. The book “takes readers from nuclear launch to nuclear winter—in 72 minutes,” Jacobsen wrote in a Dec. 18 posting on X. She quoted former STRATCOM Commander Gen. Robert Kehler: “The world could end in the next couple of hours.” Jacobsen thanked Ploughshares, “a relentless force committed to eliminating the threat of nuclear weapons,” for having financed the distribution of her book to Congress.
Now your Representatives and Senators need to read it! In its Nov. 29 review of the book, EIR called it “a terrifying depiction of what a nuclear war would really be like … 72 minutes to annihilation.” Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter strongly recommends that U.S. policymakers read Jacobsen’s book to understand just how dangerous is the U.S. policy of waging war on Russia via Ukraine. The book is “a work of fiction … written after consulting former nuclear war planners; people who were in the system, who understood how nuclear war is fought,” he explains.
As Jacobsen wrote on the distribution of her book to Congress members: “Join the conversation while we can all still have one.”
