The fact that the Israeli military, along with the Shin Bet security service and the border police, began an operation, dubbed “Iron Wall,” in Jenin on the West Bank a couple of days after the ceasefire in Gaza began on Jan. 19, was no mere happenstance. Already, that day military officials said the IDF Central Command was getting ready to carry out offensive actions in the West Bank, to prevent Hamas from establishing a foothold in the West Bank following the ceasefire, reported Times of Israel.
The IDF said today that it “hit more than 10 terrorists” during the ongoing raid in the Jenin, adding that several airstrikes were carried out, and numerous explosive devices were neutralized.
The operation, which is expected to last several days, began yesterday afternoon with drone strikes on infrastructure “used by terror groups,” a military source said. IDF sources said large numbers of troops, including special forces, Shin Bet agents and Border Police officers, were operating in the city. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the operation was “another step in achieving the goal we set, strengthening security in Judea and Samaria.”
