Israelis Rally for the Release of All the Hostages

Demonstrations were held all across Israel on Saturday night, Jan. 18, calling for the implementation of the ceasefire/hostage deal in Gaza and the release of all of the remaining 98 or so Israeli hostages still in Gaza. According to a report in Haaretz, the weekly Saturday night anti-government protest was called off so that people could participate in the events for the release of hostages. A rally also took place at the Hostages Square at the Tel Aviv Museum, Haaretz added. Additionally, demonstrations took place at around 20 locations in Israel calling for the war’s end.

Einav Zangauker, whose son, Matan, is held in Gaza and is expected to be released in the second phase of the deal, declared outside the defense establishment headquarters that a comprehensive agreement had been reached to return all hostages, but warned that “the extremists in the government are trying to sabotage the full implementation of the agreement.” She added, “They want to resume fighting and issue a death sentence for the hostages left behind for messianic delusions, against the will of the people and Israel’s interests.”
