New Lebanon President Described As a Lebanese Patriot Despite US Backing

According to a well informed source in Lebanon, although the Americans had placed the Lebanese army, like everyone else, in a state of severe financial dependence, Joseph Aoun, despite his dependence on them, never ceased to be a Lebanese patriot. So his attitude towards Hezbollah hasn’t changed fundamentally, but it has become more realistic. Now that the election has taken place, an analysis of the electoral process and of the number of votes the elected general received in each of the two phases reveals that the whole thing was not the result of an American diktat, but of a compromise arrangement with the Hezbollah and, more generally, with the political front of the Resistance in the country, of which the Hezbollah is the main leader. In the end, it was a global compromise that involved both sides of the same coin. And it is this compromise that will ultimately determine the formation of the next government, as well as all future policies and reforms in all areas, including national defense strategy.
