Supreme Court Hears Arguments on TikTok Case

The Supreme Court of the United States heard arguments from the government and from TikTok and its parent company ByteDance, as well as from a lawyer representing TikTok users, over whether the law that forces its sale by January 19 is an unconstitutional attack on free speech. The Court is expected to issue a ruling by the end of next week.

If the Court does not block implementation of the law, ByteDance would be forced to sell or shut down TikTok. The company has said that selling the platform is out of the question, and that they would choose instead to shut down U.S. access to the app.

TikTok has been cited as a problem for Israel, as it is a platform where younger people have shared first-hand videos and information about the devastating situation in Gaza.
