“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia,” President Trump said in a post on his Truth Social media platform. President Gustavo Petro’s decision to block the flights “has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States,” he says, resulting in “urgent and decisive retaliatory measures.”

These would include:

• a 25% tariff, to increase to 50% in one week

• a travel ban and visa revocations for government officials and their “allies and supporters”

• increased border inspections of all Colombian people and freight

• financial sanctions
