Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, on Feb. 20, at Abdelatty’s request. The two discussed in depth several situations ongoing in the region, including Sudan and Syria, but the focus of their talks was resolving the Palestinian crisis.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s early recovery and reconstruction plan for Gaza. This plan ensures the Palestinian population remains on their land and enjoys strong Arab support. The Chinese foreign minister agreed to this approach,” Egypt’s semi-official daily, Al Ahram reported the next day. The commitment of both governments to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations by spurring increased Chinese investments in Egypt for mutual benefit was also agreed on, the Foreign Ministry reported.
