A former high-level Italian and NATO military officer told EIRNS that he was happy that “things between the U.S.A. and Russia are on a good pathway.” The EU and NATO are “imbeciles” that will try “to put a spoke in the wheels, despite the fact that they have no right, no title to speak, to interfere,” he said.
“The substantial issue is that the phone call [between Trump and Putin] ever took place. The other substantial thing is that the U.S.A. does not consider Russia as their enemy. This is fundamental.”
As for NATO, they still are preparing for a war against Russia, following the line laid out by Adm. Rob Bauer and by the new chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Italian Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. To understand their mindset, look again at a speech to NATO troops Bauer made in 2021, where he said that the Afghan war had not been a lost war, and the human sacrifices were worth it. This, although the main aim of the war, the training of an Afghan army, was a miserable failure. It was the Afghan army that collapsed, not the NATO forces.
As for the idea of NATO member troops to be deployed as “guarantee” to Ukraine, this is a no-go. NATO Article 5 would be activated even if NATO troops are used in a peacekeeping function.
“Real guarantees can come only from the U.S.A. and Russia, from their agreement. This must look like the following: 1) We won’t use nuclear weapons against each other—it is a replica of the statement signed in 2021 by the major nuclear powers. Thus, strategic deterrence is re-established. 2) The other guarantee is that Ukraine will not become a EU member. This is a trap, as the EU treaty includes military assistance to any EU member country in case of aggression. In a sense, this is even larger than Art. 5 of NATO. You just need Kiev to say one day: We have been attacked, and we will have the EU alone, fighting a war against Russia.”
The source also pointed to the proposal made a while ago by Italian Gen. Fabio Mini (ret.) to create a wide demilitarized area on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine border.
“But if the Europeans insist on conducting a war against Russia, Moscow will demand a demilitarized area from the Baltic to the Black Sea.”
The source also agreed to the comparison with 1933, when the United States and Europe went in opposite directions, with the Europeans choosing fascism and war. “NATO and the EU have already split from their own statutes. NATO has betrayed all 14 articles of the founding treaty.” The source also agreed that the EU military spending is a Schachtian scheme to pump some money into the bankrupt financial system. “They say this themselves,” he interjected, referring as an example to what then-Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said in Davos two years ago.
