Erdogan and Prabowo Strengthen Türkiye-Indonesia Ties

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Bogor, Indonesia on Feb. 12 during his state visit. The already strong relations were further strengthened, for talks aimed at strengthening economic and defense ties between the two Muslim-majority nations. The two leaders signed dozens of agreements, including on trade, investment, education, energy, agriculture, health and religious services.

AP noted that Türkiye and Indonesia held their first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council summit after agreeing to create the forum at the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022. The two leaders previously met in Ankara in July 2024, when Subianto was still President-elect and defense minister.

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations. However, our historical ties with Indonesia go back more than 400 years. Inspired by this strong affinity, we crowned our relations with our strategic partnership in 2011. With today’s council meeting, we have further institutionalized our relations,” said Erdogan.

The two leaders expressed total support for the Palestinians, rejecting the talk of removing the Palestinians from their country. Erdogan said Türkiye would “continue to work with Indonesia on the reconstruction of Gaza.”
