Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was in Malaysia on Feb. 11, where he met with Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Following one-on-one talks between the leaders, they attended an inter-delegation meeting to discuss bilateral relations and international issues—including the Gaza war—and signed several agreements. Both countries have recently become partner members of the BRICS, and have otherwise enjoyed close relations for some time.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Erdoğan said that Israel must end its occupation of Palestinian lands, and compensate for the damage it has caused. He called for the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestine state based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. On aid to Gaza, the Turkish President said, “We can handle this” if all ASEAN members join hands.
