As generally expected, the Christian Democrats won the German election, but with only 28.2% of the vote, followed by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) at 20.8%. Third is the Social Democrats at 16.4%, followed by the Greens at 11.6% and Linke at 8.8%.
The Free Democrats and the Wagenknecht (BSW) party received less than 5% (4.3% and 4.9%, respectively) not sufficient to enter the newly elected parliament. The voter turnout was around 84%. In 2021, it was 76%.
