International Youth Hold Forum on Nuclear Energy in Egypt

As part of the Russia-Egyptian joint venture building a nuclear power plant (NPP) at El Dabaa, on the northern coast of Egypt, the International Youth Forum for Sustainable Nuclear Technologies took place in Alexandria on Feb. 25-27. The event brought 300 students and nuclear energy exports from 25 countries, for a series of presentations, workshops and discussions on the future of nuclear power in Egypt and the region.

Alexey Kononenko, head of the El Dabaa NPP Project, told Sputnik on the sidelines of the Forum that the event gives young people the opportunity to better understand nuclear energy technologies and appreciate the prospects of this field. He added that young people from Egypt and Russia are being recruited to work on the El Dabaa NPP project and are being trained in new specialties.

Egypt has already founded a nuclear engineering high school for students between the ages of 15 and 18, which is located near the El Dabaa site.
