Macron Says No Troops for Ukraine, Scholz Says No Money

Following their meeting in Paris earlier this week, European leaders continue to run at the mouth while other, more mature international actors (the “adults” in the room) decide their fate. French President Emmanuel Macron, a man for all seasons, is now saying there will be no French troops sent to Ukraine while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says there will be no money.

“I have never announced that troops from France will be sent to Ukraine. France is not making preparations to send troops,” Macron said in an interview published in La Depèche newspaper.

TASS reported that Scholz, upon exiting the meeting in Paris on Feb.17 with the leaders of Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark and the U.K., reported that further financial assistance to Ukraine is hobbled by issues related to budgetary deficits in European countries. He said further support for Kiev would not take a toll on industry and social security across Europe only if a separate financing channel was arranged.
