NATO plans to “extend pipelines from Germany to Poland and the Czech Republic to supply rapid jet fuel in a potential war with Russia,” according to German publication Der Spiegel.
NATO’s Central European Pipeline System was built in the late 1950s, designed “to meet operational needs in Central Europe in times of peace, crisis and conflict.” It transported large volumes of kerosene, gasoline, and diesel fuel through Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and was also used by the U.S. It will now be extended from western Germany into Poland and the Czech Republic, Der Spiegel has reported, citing an internal memo from Germany’s military, the Bundeswehr. The move comes as the bloc makes “operational plans for a possible Russian attack on the eastern states,” writes Der Spiegel.
