Opposition to EU Defense Spending Spreading

Not all countries in the EU are enthusiastic about the EU’s war mobilization. Both Slovakia and Hungary, which border each other and also Ukraine, are in favor of a ceasefire in Ukraine and immediate peace negotiations. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is convinced that spending more than 2% would bankrupt the country. Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg wants to wait until after the ongoing government negotiations are complete. The new Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov is opposed to taking funds for defense from existing programs such as the Cohesion Fund, which has been designated for climate protection and infrastructure in the EU.
