Russia Will Resist Turning the Baltic Sea into a NATO Lake

Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin told TASS that Russia will not sit idly by while the Baltic Sea is turned into a NATO lake. Barbin was commenting on the decision of NATO member-countries to launch patrols in the Baltic Sea with the use of warships and aviation. “This is an attempt to turn the Baltic Sea into internal waters of NATO, limit the freedom of navigation and put observation of sanctions introduced by the West against our country under NATO’s stringent control. Russia will do everything needed to protect its interests with reliance on international law. Our opponents should not have any illusions in this regard,” Barbin said. “Groundless accusations of Russia has become a favorite technique of Western countries to keep afloat the myth of the Russian threat and justify the need of escalating military expenditures and providing military aid to the Kiev regime.”

Barbin also said that no security dialogue is currently possible between Denmark and Russia because Copenhagen is a sponsor of the Kiev regime. “The Danish side has broken all contacts with us by now. There are no prerequisites for resumption of the dialogue on those issues as the Kiev regime is sponsored by Denmark,” he was quoted as saying by TASS. “Before the special military operation in Ukraine started the Russian side drew Copenhagen’s attention to possible implementation of mutual confidence-building measures in the military field, including on prevention of incidents in the open sea and airspace above it. Copenhagen missed that chance,” Barbin noted.
