On Feb. 8, Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced to a grouping of political, civil and armed group leaders in Port Sudan that he would form a new cabinet with non-partisan ministers in the coming period to complete tasks of the transitional period. The government could be called a “caretaker government” or a “war government” and its function would be to help complete the military tasks of purging the country from the rebels, al-Burhan said, as reported by the Sudan Tribune.
In his remarks, he laid out the conditions for the formation of such a transitional government, starting with the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Tagadum), demanding they renounce the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). He also rejected any return to power for the al-Bashir’s party, urging them to cease political maneuvering
“The door remains open to everyone who has taken a patriotic stance, and everyone who returns is welcome after they renounce the aggressors,” al-Burhan said, referring to the RSF.
