According to TASS, Trump’s aid cuts to Ukraine are already showing their effects. In particular, Ukrainian media might be shut down as a result. Oxana Romanjuk, the head of the Ukrainian “Institute for Mass Information,” stated on Jan. 29 that almost 90% of Ukrainian media have been able to work only thanks to subsidies from abroad in recent years; more than 80% of these were at the expense of USAID programs.

Romanjuk spoke to Ukrainian radio station Hromadskoye, saying that advertising revenues were not enough to finance broadcasting operations. She noted that “almost all of them received grants,” but for some they accounted for 100% of funding, whereas for others they accounted for about 40 to 60%.
