Will South Africa Put Nuclear Power on the G20 Agenda?

Will South Africa put nuclear power on the agenda of the G20, which it is hosting this year?

A major factor instigating this question is the work of the long-time friend of the Schiller Institute and the founder of Africa4nuclear Princess Mthombeni. She has been pushing South Africa to utilize its role as the current President of the G20 and the host of the 2025 G20 summit to advance the use of nuclear power, reports World Nuclear News. The G20 summit will convene in Johannesburg in November, but she argues that there is no need to wait; policy workshops and round table discussions have already started. The need for nuclear power in the world is inescapable and South Africa could easily assert itself in the G20 workshops on the “Research and Development Working Group,” meetings on “Economic Growth, Industrialization, and Employment,” and a task force on “Reducing Inequality.” So far this year the U.S. has been absent from any G20 events and has expressed little or no interest in attending the G20 summit in November.
