An Ominous Sign: Seven U.S. B-2 Stealth Bombers Deploy to Indian Ocean Base

March 26, 2025 (EIRNS)—Social media has been abuzz over the last two days with open source evidence of a major deployment of U.S. B-2 stealth bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri to the island of Diego Garcia in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The evidence, from flight trackers and other sources, as summarized by the UK Defence Journal, shows that at least five B-2s and perhaps as many as seven out of a fleet of twenty, have deployed to Diego Garcia by way of Guam and Australia, supported by air refueling tankers. At least seven C-17 cargo planes have been tracked flying into Diego Garcia as well.

The military activity was first flagged by open-source intelligence (OSINT) specialist “IntelFrog” (@TheIntelFrog), described as a respected analyst who tracks military aircraft movements using publicly available data, including ADS-B flight tracking and the Aircraft Communications, Addressing and Reporting System, a digital messaging system. IntelFrog further noted that these movements are not typical and appear to be linked to an impending military operation.

The speculation is that these deployments are aimed at expanding the campaign against the Houthis or beginning a new one against Iran. The War Zone notes that “Overall, what has been observed so far with regard to Diego Garcia represents a force package that is significantly larger than what has typically been associated with routine Bomber Task Force deployments globally, as well as exercises, in recent years.”

Notable is that this deployment is happening as the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson has been ordered to Southwest Asia–it was docked in Guam yesterday–and two other carriers, the USS Nimitz out of San Diego and the USS Gerald R. Ford out of Norfolk, are preparing to deploy, though to where is not reported.

The deployment coincided with the release of footage of a newly revealed underground “missile city” in Iran by the IRGC. The facility was unveiled on March 25 with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri and the Aerospace Division’s Commander Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh in attendance, reported Mehr News. Footage published across various Iranian news outlets showed the top brass touring the sprawling center that houses thousands of surgical strike ballistic missiles such as Kheybar Shekan, Martyr Haj Qassem, Qadr-H, Sejjil, and Emad.
