March 25, 2025 (EIRNS)—Brailian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will visit Russia in May, where he will hold bilateral talks with host President Vladimir Putin, TASS reported March 23, citing Lula’s Special Advisor on Foreign Affairs Celso Amorim as the source. A Putin-Lula meeting will be important for developing the BRICS; Brazil’s chairmanship of the BRICS this year follows on Russia’s chairmanship in 2024.

Lula had accepted Putin’s invitation to join the May 9 celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism when the two spoke on Jan. 27. Whether he would physically be able to attend, however, would depend on a full recovery from a second round of brain surgery in mid-December.
