March 22, 2025 (EIRNS)—The “Friends of Peace,” a group of 17 countries formed last year at the initiative of Brazil and China and committed to help resolve the Ukraine-Russia conflict, met at the United Nations March 20 to help further the negotiations underway between the U.S. and Russia towards resolving that conflict. The meeting was “highly successful,” according to the statement read at a media stakeout at its conclusion by the ambassadors from China and Brazil, Fu Cong and Sergio Danese, respectively.

The statement is a far cry from the insistence that the war must continue, which is coming out of the U.K., Brussels, and most European capitals.

“We discussed the latest developments of the conflict in Ukraine, as well as recent dynamics toward peace talks and the prospects for achieving a lasting peace,” the Friends of Peace reported. The statement reminds that they were “among the first to call for an immediate and complete ceasefire—a call we firmly reiterate today….

“Recent developments suggest that the conflict might be approaching a turning point, with the focus shifting from the battlefield to the negotiating table. We welcome this potential shift and see it as an opportunity to generate new momentum toward ending the conflict. This could mark a critical step toward peace and pave the way for meaningful and sustainable progress.
