March 28, 2025 (EIRNS)—On March 27 French Col. Alain Corvez (ret.), former advisor to the General-in-Command of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and former international relations advisor to the French Foreign Ministry, gave an interview to Sputnik. Corvez said that only a strategic agreement between the U.S. and Russia can end the war in Ukraine and that EU countries are powerless to intervene. He said that France’s plans to establish some kind of buffer zone in Ukraine are “absolutely impossible.” Corvez insisted instead that only a strategic agreement can work, and it would require an official recognition of the necessity of Russia’s security and that Ukraine would be neutral and not in NATO.”
Targeting European leaders, such as the U.K.’s Starmer, France’s Macron, and Germany’s Merz, Corvez said, “They have made a bargain on the war in Ukraine, and they have lost the war. They cannot accept peace imposed by Russia and America. So they are doing things that are completely unrealistic and illogical.” Corvez maintained that these leaders are only concerned with “their own fate” and show no true concern for the fate of the Ukrainian people or the nation of Ukraine. Corvez spoke of Macron’s “stupid decision” to oppose the Black Sea ceasefire.
Corvez continued that these European leaders “are not able to do anything unless they want to declare war on Russia, which is the first nuclear power in the world, which is completely stupid. But unless they declare war to Russia, they have no option. They have nothing that they are able to do.”
