March 24, 2025 (EIRNS)—An article in RT reports that India has passed the milestone of 1 billion tons of coal produced domestically over the past fiscal year. The only other nation which produces that much coal is China, and is a stark reminder that the majority of the world, and the Global South, in particular, did not take the bait of “decarbonizing” and sacrificing their national development.
India’s Mining Minister [G. Kishan Reddy posted](https://x.com/kishanreddybjp/status/1902970696009125935 ) on X: “With cutting-edge technologies and efficient methods, we’ve not only increased production but also ensured sustainable and responsible mining. This achievement will fuel our increasing power demands, drive economic growth, and ensure a brighter future for every Indian.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a “proud moment for India.”
RT reports that India plans to continue its momentum, and mine 1.08 billion tons over the next fiscal year.
