March 26, 2025 (EIRNS)—Facing capital flight and threats from London’s financial ghouls, new BRICS member Indonesia has turned to the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) to help protect its sovereign right to develop. NDB President Dilma Rousseff was greeted by honor guards when she arrived March 25 at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta to meet with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who then personally escorted her inside for the meeting, Indonesia’s national news agency, Antara News, reported.
After a discussion of the opportunities for potential collaboration between the NDB and Indonesia, President Subianto announced that Indonesia will join the New Development Bank, the NDB press release reported.
Subianto was accompanied in the meeting by his Foreign Affairs and Investment and Downstreaming Ministers, as well as his Cabinet Secretary. Earlier in the day, Rousseff had met with Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hararto, who briefed her on the Indonesian government’s national economic priorities: securing energy security, food self-sufficiency and equal access to clean water. He gave particular attention to the free nutritious meal program which the government provides nationally for various educational levels, with the hope of improving the rural economy and creating multiplier effects.
The NDB press release conveys the importance of Indonesia’s decision.
