March 23, 2025 (EIRNS)—On March 21, a Sudanese government delegation arrived in Saudi Arabia for consultations with Arab and U.S. mediators regarding the conditions for civil war ceasefire negotiations to begin in Geneva next week, reported Arab News.
The talks were to be hosted by Saudi Arabia and the U.S., with the African Union, Egypt, the U.A.E., and the UN as observers. The war in Sudan, which began about 16 months ago, has killed tens of thousands, and has left millions of refugees exposed to disease, famine and violence. Fighting broke out when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces declared war on the legitimate government of Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, who has served as the Interim President of Sudan since 2021.
