March 2, 2025 (EIRNS)—Sophie and Pakdee Tanapura, longtime collaborators of the LaRouche movement and leaders of the campaign for a canal across the Kra Isthmus, sponsored a forum at their restaurant in Bangkok, featuring Prof. Georgy Toloraya from Russia, a friend of the Schiller Institute, who is the Executive Director of the Russian National Committee on BRICS Research, and Director of the Asian Strategy Center at the Institute of Economics (Russia) and Chief Researcher of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia (ICCA) of the Russian Academy of Sciences The forum, titled, “The Thai Kra Canal: A Golden Opportunity from the BRICS Perspective,” took place on Feb. 26.

A press release by co-moderator nautical Captain Bundit Sripa reports: “Prof. Georgy Toloraya confirmed that the Thai Canal is the only infrastructure project in Southeast Asia that BRICS is willing to support. If the Thai government decides to proceed, BRICS will provide financial support, technological expertise, and infrastructure development to ensure the project’s success. The project aligns with BRICS’ strategy to establish Thailand as a key logistics, trade, and economic hub in the region.”

Also speaking at the forum was Dr. Harold Wagner, an international expert on underground infrastructure, who addressed some of the technical issues which would be required to build the Canal across the Kra Isthmus in southern Thailand, connecting the Pacific and the Indian Oceans.
