March 1, 2025 (EIRNS)—U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent gave a candid interview to Fox’s Laura Ingraham on Feb. 28, following the Zelenskyy Oval Office fiasco, which Bessent called “one of the greatest diplomatic mishaps of all time.” He told Ingraham that he traveled to Kiev earlier this month to work out the economic deal with Ukraine in order to “show Russia that there’s no daylight” between the U.S. and Ukrainian people. The “very tough” 45-minute meeting with Zelenskyy was “at a very loud decibel level,” and afterward, Zelenskyy told Bessent he wouldn’t sign the agreement that day, but that he would sign it in Munich at the Munich Security Council meeting. When that didn’t happen, Zelenskyy insisted that he would come to Washington to sign the agreement.
On Thursday, Feb. 27, the day before the ill-fated (for Zelenskyy) meeting, Bessent, with a much more reserved tone, told Fox Business that the deal is done, it’s on paper, approved by the Ukrainian government, and that it only awaited the signature of the two Presidents—which would happen the next day.
