Ukraine and Europe Target U.S.-Russia Deals on Energy Infrastructure, Grain

March 27, 2025 (EIRNS)—The Russian Defense Ministry issued another statement this morning, charging that Ukrainian forces continue to attack Russian energy infrastructure. It reported that, in Russia’s Bryansk Region, a 10-kV high-voltage line was hit last evening, and that this morning, Ukrainian artillery targeted and disabled a complete transformer substation. In Crimea, a Ukrainian UAV targeted the ground equipment of an underground gas storage facility this morning, but it was shot down.

The statement concluded: “Thus, the Kiev regime, while continuing to damage the Russian civilian energy infrastructure, is actually doing everything it can to thwart the agreements reached by the Russian Federation and the United States on step-by-step measures to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.”

Ukraine’s General Staff issued a denial yesterday, saying that Russia’s claims were part of a broader disinformation campaign aimed at justifying continued hostilities, reported AP. Further, Ukrainian officials have contested claims by the Kremlin that Russian forces have not attacked energy sites in Ukraine since March 18. In a post on X on March 25, Zelenskyy’s communications advisor Dmytro Lytvyn said that Moscow was “lying” about observing a ceasefire on energy infrastructure. “They’ve been hitting our energy sites with bombs, attack drones, and FPV drones. We’re not going into all the details, but there have already been eight confirmed hits on energy facilities. Every night our air defense forces shoot down nearly a hundred attack drones—and many of those drones were likely targeting other energy facilities.”
