A half-hour interview with Fox News’ Brett Baier did not reveal any change of heart on the part of Voldomyr Zelenskyy, after his disastrous livestreamed meeting with President Donald Trump today. Fox asked several times if he wished to apologize for the events today, but gave no response. He underlined that he felt the U.S. relationship was of vital importance to Ukraine, and that both the U.S. and the European countries were important to Kiev. But there was no indication that he was prepared to talk about stopping the war, or even a ceasefire (which Russia has said is not acceptable, unless the underlying causes of the war are addressed).
Zelenskyy brought up the question of “security guarantees,” but indicated that Trump felt that with the proposed agreement on minerals mining, this would bring enough U.S. economic companies into Ukraine that it should be a sufficient security guarantee to prevent any military action from any country. Zelenskyy—and his London sponsors—was obviously looking for more than that.
