Zelenskyy Reacts with Theatrics, Then a Call for Trump To Speak to Him

March 18, 2025 (EIRNS)—Ukraine’s Acting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a briefing Tuesday evening March 18, made initial comments about the Trump-Putin phone call today, according to Ukrinform. Initially, he could not avoid silly theatrics, pretending that an air alert called in Kiev is evidence that Putin was attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure: “I think that Ukrainians understand what is happening. There’s an air raid alert in Ukraine now. So this, in principle, is the answer to what’s happening. So the Russians, as far as I know, said that immediately during the call with President Trump, they ordered that their strikes on energy infrastructure using long-range weapons, including Shaheds, be stopped. But now there is an air alert. So it’s not working so far.”

However, Zelenskyy was correct in pointing out that the ceasefire in the air and an immediate one on the sea—that is, what London previously had worked out with Kiev—was left out of the Trump-Putin arrangement. Zelenskyy went on: “The only issue raised now was not to hit the energy sector. I have no additional information just yet. I think it would be right if we had a conversation with President Trump and learned about the details of what the Russians offered the Americans, or what the Americans offered the Russians.”
