Bloody Attack on Refugee Camp in Darfur Area of Sudan

On April 13 paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) murdered over 200 civilians in the Zamzam Camp for displaced people. Next week will be the second anniversary of this war which has created the worst humanitarian crisis in the world according to the UN. Sunday, April 13, saw some of the worst violence during this war with indiscriminate killing of displaced civilians. Among the dead are at least nine medical workers from Relief International including a doctor, medical staff, and even their driver. They operated the last medical clinic in the area. Over 90 humanitarian workers have been killed in the conflict. An estimated 150,000 people have been killed in the war and 10 million have been displaced.

This area around the town of El Fasher, capital of Sudan’s North Darfur State has been under siege for more than a year, leaving hundreds of thousands of civilians cut off from food, medicine, and other humanitarian aid. Famine has been a consistent problem in Zamzam and other displacement camps.
