On April 7-8, Cairo will host a summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Jordanian King Abdullah II to push for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, reported Al Ahram yesterday. According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the summit will focus on de-escalation and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid.
Macron arrived in Cairo on the night of April 6. “In response to the Gaza emergency and during my visit to Egypt at President el-Sisi’s invitation, we will hold a trilateral summit with the Egyptian President and the King of Jordan,” he wrote on X yesterday.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty warned during a meeting with a Palestinian Fatah delegation in Cairo on April 5 that Israel’s belief in the power of force would create further obstacles to peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the region, according to a separate report in Al Ahram. The delegation was led by Fatah Secretary-General Jibril Rajoub, and included Rawhi Fattouh, President of the Palestinian National Council, and Mohammad Shtayyeh, former Palestinian Prime Minister.
