An $18 billion nuclear project in the Czech Republic can go ahead with the Korean KHNP company, according to the Czech competition authority. An appeal filed by the French company EDF, which lost the bid to the Koreans, was rejected, and the two 1,000 MW units at Dukovany will be built by KHNP. Coal plants are being phased out in the Czech Republic, with nuclear expected to cover one-third of electricity generation, rising over time to half of the total. The project should be completed by 2036, according to Reuters.
